In this paper we present an investigation of flow noise in sonarapplications. Based on a careful identification of the dominant couplingeffects, the acoustic noise at the sensor position resulting from the turbulentwall pressure fluctuations is modelled with a system of hydrodynamic, bendingand acoustic waves. We describe an analytical solution of the problem which isbased on a coupled eigenfunction expansion method. Finally, it is demonstratedthat the analytical solution describes the flow noise generation andpropagation mechanisms of the considered sea trials.
